Our client, a growing manufacturing firm located in the western suburbs, is looking for a Corrugated Packaging Designer.

Your responsibilities will be varied and include:
• Designing product samples according to specifications and/or samples
• Working with customers to develop packaging solutions
• Assisting Production Department in developing efficient manufacturing methods for corrugated die-cut products
• Evaluating corrugated sheets to determine compliance to grade standards
• Assisting Sales Representatives and Sales Service personnel with packaging design problems communicated from the customer

What do you need to be successful?
• Structural design background with a minimum of 7 years experience in Industrial Packaging and POP displays
• Proven track record of design or graphic solutions in the corrugated industry
• Bachelors degree preferred
• Proficiency in ArtiosCAD software and TOPS Pro Software
• Knowledge of ASTM and ISTA
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Knowledge of packaging technical development, packaging material and shipping regulations
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Solid technical computer skills

Job Responsibilities:
•Manage and execute bids on packaging supplies and manage the packaging inventory.
•Coordinate and arrange for distribution and delivery of packaging materials.
•Provide guidance and assistance to vendors and internal departments.
•Discuss defective or unacceptable new goods or service failures with internal customers, vendors and others to determine cause of problem and take corrective and/or preventative action.
•Implement procurement strategy and policies.
•Supervise 1 or more associates.
•Research suppliers and vendors of new materials and alternatives, keeping abreast of new developments in the industry.
•Maintain industry knowledge regarding advancements in the arena of sustainable packaging materials development.
•Investigate complaints regarding vendors/products.
•Develop/maintain bid schedule for all sourcing programs.
•Create RFQ for every bid opportunity, summarizing pricing and other key metrics needed to analyze the various bid proposals.
•Present options and recommendations to appropriate team members/senior management for final decision.
•Negotiate and implement purchase agreements/contracts with key suppliers; document pricing, quality and service requirements within the pricing agreement/contract, working with the Legal department on all contracts.
•Forecast procurement needs; review inventory levels and place purchases orders as needed to meet the inventory requirements.
•Process purchase orders and invoices in a timely manner.
•Maintain effective and efficient records of usage and cost for analysis and KPI measurement.
•Report on cost savings; keep accurate records of usage and cost to analyze usage and commodities purchased for historic volume and/or abuse.

Requirements:
•5-10 years experience in purchasing with packaging material experience; Packaging Engineer who has sourcing experience strongly preferred
•Bachelors degree; Packaging Engineering degree preferred
•Previous management / supervisory experience
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
•Must be detail-oriented and posses excellent organizational skills
•Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
•Packaging Engineering certification (CPP) and/or membership in IOPP desirable

The successful candidate will have direct responsibility for a establishing and implementing a
variety of packaging/crating requirements for loads shipped via domestic and international
carriers. This will include packaging/crating design, load configurations, space utilization,
cubing, etc. to maximize truck and container space. Incumbent will recommend, purchase and
implement cubing software and related processes to ensure we are shipping all freight with
optimum utilization and cost in mind. Particular emphasis will be placed on load configurations,
bulking out loads whereby minimizing lost space and developing sustainable consistent
packaging techniques and processes.

Incumbent will work closely with shipping staff as well as logistics, manufacturing and design
engineers.

Current Plant Environment:
 # Direct reports – 0
 # Indirect reports – 0 …but…works closely with Shipping, ME and Logistics team.
 Average loads (trucks) per day – 25 to 45
 Multi shift operation/Non-Union
 Primary products – Grain storage, drying and material handling systems. Protein heating,

Job Summary:
This is both a leadership position and a hands-on position, responsible for all structural packaging development for items that are manufactured and packaged globally. The position interfaces with marketing, external suppliers, procurement, finance, distribution, new product development, and innovation, and has direct reports both in Asia and in the U.S. Additionally, this position is responsible for ongoing improvement to the international packaging development process including design, testing, and production. Duties:

Requirements:

• Experience with corrugated and thermoplastic systems.
• Possess the ability to multi-task to handle a significant number of projects at once.
• Hand’s on project leader, with demonstrated creativity and team development skills.
• International travel required.
