This is a great opportunity to get into the holiday spirit, share a meal, and spread some joy.

The Chicago Chapter has been invited to participate in Holiday for Hope, Illinois largest holiday event for homeless and severely at-risk children. The event will be
held this year on December 17^th in a downtown location and brings 1,000 children from all over Illinois to a day they will never forget and foster hope for the coming year.

It all began here in Chicago with an organization called Dreams For Kids. Our chapter president, Marty Zei, has volunteered at several of the Dreams For Kids events and he can tell you that Dreams For Kids is a one of kind organization that truly serves children who are too often forgotten. Dreams For Kids believe in “paying it forward”, so the children they help in turn reach out to help others.

This year Marty wants to bring the Chicago Chapter into this community-wide celebration. There are many area businesses and individuals who participate to make the Dreams For Kids event possible and now the Chicago Chapter will be one of the Dreams For Kids supporters. The Chicago Chapter, all 540 strong, can make a great impact. In order for us to do so, we should each invite our co-workers, families and friends to participate. Please reach out to your networks for individual mini toy drives and bring all of the toys collected to our December 13^th gathering.

Craig Jarvis, our Chapter President for the last 4 years, has accepted a new position and relocated to Boise, ID. We’re all sorry to see him go and we will miss his genuine affability and sense of humor. But our loss is the Cascade Chapter’s gain.

For more than 10 years Craig has been closely involved in Chapter activities and leadership positions. He was always willing to step up and volunteer for various activities and committees: Golf Outing Chair, Programming Chair, V.P. of Administration, and probably several others. By sheer force of personality, Craig was able to help grow the Chapter membership to a record number despite the current economic downturn.

While Craig’s involvement in the Chicago Chapter is most evident in his efforts to foster networking and educational opportunities, perhaps his most important contribution is his role as a mentor – both at his workplace and within the IoPP. Craig was always willing to assist new packaging engineers which will help to secure the bright future of the packaging industry. He has certainly left his mark on the Chicago Chapter.

We’ll miss you, Craig!

Lisa McTigue Pierce has been an active member of the IoPP and Chicago Chapter for many years. Prior to her latest endeavor, she has worked as the Chief Editor of several packaging magazines. She has written hundreds of articles on the latest and greatest happenings in the packaging world. The Officers, Board & Committee Members of the Chicago Chapter hope that you're enjoying
your summer!

Much like fall is sneaking up on us, so has the end of the IoPP fiscal year
(recently changed to July 1st through June 30th ).

Three Important Items To Complete ASAP:

1. Fill open board positions

2. Plan and schedule meetings and/or tours for fall and winter

3. Submit Chapter of the Year information

How can you help?!

Volunteer to fill one of the open board positions. Call Craig Jarvis
or any current board member for a description of duties, for more information
or with any questions that you may have.

Reminder! Participation as chapter board or committee member helps
you to accumulate points towards earning your CPP.

d. Membership

e. Programming

2. Provide ideas and help with planning a meeting and/or tour.
New and fresh ideas are needed!

3. Submit Chapter of the Year information for the period of January 1st, 2009 through June 30th, 2010.

The Chapter Board members need to know how you have contributed on an individual basis
to better the packaging industry.

Come on - brag a little!

All contributions, no matter how big or small count toward points which can put the Chicago Chapter
on top to win the very prestigious National IoPP Chapter of the Year Award.

Here are examples of the items that count toward points for the Chapter of the Year award:

1. Did you author or co-author a packaging article(s) for a publication?

2. Did you lecture at a career day or similar event?

3. Were you a speaker for an allied industry organization meeting?

4. Are you serving on an IoPP National Council or Technical Committee?

5. Are you serving on an allied industry organization technical council?

6. Did you have an entry in the Ameri-Star or other packaging competition?

7. Were you nominated for an Annual Award such as the College of Fellows?

8. Were you inducted into the Packaging Hall of Fame or Pi Alpha Kappa Society
or other such honor related to the packaging industry?

9. Were you responsible for getting new individual, or corporate memberships?

10. Were you responsible for signing or renewing an IoPP Benefactor?

If the answer to any of the above questions is YES, then please drop an email to Marty Zei,

Holiday Gathering 2010 ( after the rush! )

Come join us for an evening at one of Wheeling’s newer establishments, Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant.

A modern casual restaurant, a menu created with their hand crafted wines in mind. Start with visiting their Napa-style tasting room and shop.

Then we’ll head to the dining room where it will be your choice to order appetizers, dinner entrees, or just desserts to enjoy.

We’ll be conducting a "Yankee Swap" style gift exchange. So if you would like to participate,

bring an unopened bottle of wine ( approx. $10 ), wrapped to exchange. Place a tag on the bottle to identify the type of wine in the wrapping.

We’ll draw cards to establish the selection order to pick your new bottle of wine to take home.
